The New Sako S20 – The First True Hybrid Rifle

The new S20 by Sako has created its own class: the first true hybrid rifle. The modular structure of this rifle adapts to different shooting styles for those who shoot across a range of disciplines.

Sako was established in Finland in 1921 initially to refurbish and service firearms for the Civil Guard. The company grew into what it is today by focusing on production excellence honouring its dedicated craftsman and personnel, and providing innovative solutions to shooters’ emerging needs. Over the decades Sako has moved from hand manufacture to computer aided research and development and CNC manufacturing to develop world-class military, target and hunting rifles and cartridges.

The highly configurable stock is the key to making this rifle a hybrid; it is possible to mix and match different forends to rear stocks to come up with a configuration that the shooter wants. At the time of launch Sako debuted a tactical precision stock and an ergonomic hunting stock, the latter of which is an improved version of a traditional thumbhole stock more akin to pistol grip. It takes a matter of minutes to change the configuration of the rifle, turning it from a tactical rifle to a hunting rifle, or vice versa, by loosening two screws between the rear stock and the forend. After changing the stock there is no need to re-zero the scope.

“S20 was designed with an active shooter in mind, one who loves all aspects of the sport, whether you’re practicing that perfect shot on the range and spotting the quarry among the foliage. You can always take a new course and trust that your rifle is up to the task,” says Miika Tamminen, Research and Development Manager, Sako Ltd..

The cheek piece is a unique, quick-adjustable design that can be adjusted with one hand and the click of one button. The height and the angle of the recoil pad can also be adjusted, thereby reducing the felt recoil and the enabling the shooter to get comfortable in a range of different shooting positions. Spacers can be used to adjust the length of pull and the trigger itself can also be moved forwards by 4mm or backwards by 3mm. The level of adjustment offered by this rifle is one of its key features.

The accuracy of the S20 is ensured by combining a cold hammer forged barrel with a whole-length aluminium V-Bedding system. The receiver of the rifle has an integrated Picatinny rail machined directly into the steel receiver. To ensure the weather resistance of the bolt it has been manufactured from stainless steel.

All Sako rifle barrels are manually checked for straightness, perfect rifle consistency and surface smoothness by specially trained professionals. Every rifle is also tested to guarantee sub MOA accuracy.
