For the first time in 50 years Weatherby has released a new centrefire rifle: the Model 307.
About Weatherby
Weatherby is a storied rifle manufacturer with a rich history that spans over seven decades. Founded in 1945 by Roy Weatherby, the company quickly established itself as a pioneer in firearm innovation. Roy Weatherby’s vision was to create rifles with exceptional power and velocity, driven by his belief that “nothing shoots flatter, hits harder, or is more accurate.” Weatherby introduced a range of proprietary cartridges, including the famous .257 Weatherby Magnum, renowned for its impressive ballistics. Over the years, Weatherby rifles have become synonymous with precision, reliability, and long-range performance, attracting a dedicated following among hunters, sport shooters, and enthusiasts worldwide.
The Model 307 Rifle
Weatherby recently moved its headquarters to a brand new facility in Sheridan, Wyoming. The people here were the inspiration behind this new model, hence why Weatherby took the “307” area code and used it as the rifle’s name.
The 2-Lug, fully cylindrical design has been purpose built to accommodate the vast range of stocks, triggers, rails, mounts, and magazines that currently exist in the market. The bolt is a new 3 piece design that can be stripped without tools, and can be released from the rifle safer and quicker thanks to the new bolt release which is located above the receiver stock line. For positive extraction of cartridges and smooth cycling the bolt is equipped with an M16 style extractor. The Model 307 uses AICS detachable magazines, of which there are plenty already in the marketplace.
Weatherby have teamed up with Triggertech and used its trigger units in this rifle. The trigger has a zero-creep break with an extremely short over-travel, and the weight can be externally adjusted from 5lbs down to 2.5lbs. All components in the trigger unit are made from stainless steel to ensure corrosion resistance. The 2 position safety allows you to safely unload the rifle whilst it is on safe.
Along with a barrelled action (which will allow you to build the rifle you want with the stock or chassis of your choice), Weatherby are currently offering the Model 307 in two variants: the 307 Range XP and the 307 Alpine MDT.
307 Range XP
The 307 Range XP has been designed to excel either on the range or in the field. The lightweight stock has a vertical grip, adjustable cheekpiece and adjustable length-of-pull to ensure the rifle fits you perfectly. The stock’s touchpoint are textured so you can keep a firm grip of it whilst shooting in challenging conditions, and there are dual front swivel studs to mount accessories.
307 Alpine MDT
Weatherby has teamed up with MDT to create an ultra-light hunting rifle in the 307 Alpine MDT. This rifle sits in the lightweight HNT26 Chassis System, which is MDT’s first purpose-built hunting rifle chassis and comes with all of the features you would expect from a chassis system: v-block bedding, adjustable length of pull, adjustable comb, and AICS magazine compatibility. Thanks to the magnesium alloy stock and a carbon fibre pistol grip, buttstock and forend, this chassis weighs just 26 ounces (737 grams). You can easily attach a tripod, bipod, or other accessories on the forend’s integrated ARCA rail, and the foldable buttstock makes it compact during transportation or storage.
