The Princeps – New Shotgun by William Powell

The Princeps is the new top-of-the-range over-and-under shotgun from William Powell.

Since 1802 William Powell has been making the finest bespoke sporting arms for clients around the world. Whilst few of the company ledgers survive from this period, a significant number of the guns do and the quality of them can still be seen along with the reason why Powell was known as the “Purdey of Birmingham” at the time.

The William Powell Princeps over-and-under shotgun is no exception, adding an element of refined class to William Powell’s already rich heritage of making best quality but very affordable shotguns.

The brief was simple, to produce a top-of-the-range over-and-under shotgun that complimented and enhanced the choice from the already existing range of continental shotguns. The concept was to create the perfect over-and-under for shooting Game in the UK, whilst maintaining excellent quality and value for money.

The Princeps is built on an elegant round-bodied action with hand engraved scroll to the sideplates, forend tip and steel capped pistol grip.

The stock and forend are fitted with exceptional grade four quality Turkish walnut. Stock dimensions include an additional semi-palm swell which allows greater ergonomic control of the gun and can be made for both right and left handed shots. As with many of William Powell’s top models, made to measure stock dimensions are included in the price, ensuring a very comfortable fit and consistently accurate shooting.

As you would expect, the Princeps is High Performance Steel Proofed with 3” chambers and comes with half and half fixed chokes as standard. There is also the option to have Teague multi-chokes or William Powell’s own multi-choking system fitted making the Princeps a fantastically versatile all-rounder.

Additional options include ‘Boss Style’ forend iron work, bespoke engraving, upgrades to the woodwork, single or double triggers, and solid gold or silver ovals with your initial engraved on them.

Retailing at £11,000, the Princeps is available in 12 or 20 bore with the option of 28”, 29”, 30” or 32” barrels. Also included is a gun fitting session in Oxfordshire, a bespoke made to measure stock, leather covered ABS travel case and a 5 year warranty against mechanical defects.
