The new Hornady 7mm Precision Rifle Cartridge represents the first truly modern 7mm magnum cartridge.
This new cartridge fits the niche between the 6.5 PRC and the 300 PRC; Hornady state “the 7mm PRC brings heavy, low drag bullets with an appropriately designed cartridge and chamber into the 21st century”. The 7mm PRC from Hornady delivers long, heavy for the calibre bullets in a standard long action. It features temperature-stable, magnum speed propellants for consistent velocity and longer barrel life.
Christensen Arms, Mossberg and Remington, are just three out of a long list of companies currently producing factory rifles for this round, however, you can also swap the barrel on your 7mm Rem Mag or 300 Win Mag rifles as the cartridge head diameter is the same.
Factory Loads
At the time of writing the factory loads available from Hornady are:
- 7mm PRC 160gr CX™ Outfitter® – muzzle velocity of 3,000fps, and a muzzle energy of 3,197ft/lb,
- 7mm PRC 180gr ELD® Match – muzzle velocity of 2,975fps, and a muzzle energy of 3,439ft/lb,
- 7mm PRC 175gr ELD-X® Precision Hunter® – muzzle velocity of 3,000fps, and a muzzle energy of 3,497ft/lb.
