The Javelin Bipod is Spartan Precision Equipment’s flagship product. It was first conceptualised in 2013 by Rob Gearing who had the desire to create a new-age adaptation of traditional bipods; one that wasn’t cumbersome to carry and was practical no matter the quarry or environment.
Rob’s background in aviation engines saw him working on the Concord aircraft sculpture which is where he discovered rare earth magnets. Combining both of these led to the creation of the javelin bipod, “an ultra-lightweight, stupidly strong bipod that could be on and off the rifle quicker than you could drop the legs on a run-of-the-mill bipod.”
None of the Spartan Precision bipods fold up underneath the rifle, instead they are easily attached and detached when needed, and light enough to store in your pocket, pack or on your belt when not in use.
The Spartan Precision range of Javelin bipods consists of the following models: Javelin Lite Bipod, Javelin Pro Hunt Bipod, and the Javelin Pro Hunt Tac Bipod.
Materials Used
Javelin Bipods are primarily constructed using a combination of carbon fibre and 7075 aerospace aluminium.
The legs are made of carbon fibre to give the bipods excellent strength and rigidity whilst also remaining lightweight. The attachment points, joints, and other load-bearing areas of the bipods are made from 7075 aluminium. This aluminium alloy is known for its high strength and corrosion resistance, making it suitable for heavy use in rugged conditions.
By combining carbon fiber and aluminum, Spartan Precision Equipment aims to achieve a balance between weight reduction, strength, and durability in their Javelin bipods. This construction approach allows for a lightweight and robust support system that can withstand the demands of shooting activities while providing stability and ease of use.
How do the Bipods Attach to Rifles?
The bipods utilise rare-earth magnets that are embedded within the bipod structure, allowing for a quick and secure attachment to compatible rifle adapters.
To attach the Javelin bipod to a firearm, a specialised adapter needs to be installed on the rifle. The adaptor can be attached to the rifle using a number of different methods, including Araca rails, Picatinny rails, M-Lok rails, or screwed in to the stud mount hole in the stock.
Once the adaptor of choice is in place, the bipod can be easily attached or detached thanks to the magnets used in the design. The magnets create a strong and secure connection, holding the bipod firmly in place.
This magnetic attachment system offers several advantages: it allows for quick and effortless deployment of the bipod, eliminating the need for screws or levers; the bipod can be conveniently put in place with just one hand; and the magnets allow for some rotational movement allowing you to adjust the rifle’s position.
Models
Javelin Lite Bipod
The Javelin Lite is Spartan’s lightest bipod weighing in at under five ounces (140 grams). It is ideal if you need to travel long distances through the mountains or wooded areas. The legs on this bipod are fixed and are available in two lengths: Standard (18.5 centimetres, 7.2 inches) or Long (22 centimetres, 8.7 inches). There is 15º of cant angle and 30º traverse angle (both left and right) to allow you to track targets and adapt to uneven terrain. If needed you can lock the bipod so it can’t traverse.
Javelin Pro Hunt Bipod
The Javelin Pro Hunt is slightly heavier than the Javelin Lite, weighing in at 6.3 ounces (176 grams). The height of the legs can be easily adjusted with the twist lock feature, taking the Standard model from 18.5 centimetres to 24.5 centimetres (7.2 inches to 9.6 inches) and the Long model from 22 centimetres to 31.5 centimetres (8.7 inches to 12.4 inches).
You can track moving targets thanks to the traversing function which allows you to pan 30º both left and right. The adjustable length legs and the cant adjustment feature (15º left and right) help you to get stable over uneven ground.
Javelin Pro Hunt Tac Bipod
The Javelin Pro Hunt Tac has spring-assisted legs with preset distances that can be quickly adjusted with one hand. As you would expect with the extra components in this model it is the heaviest in the range with the Standard model weighing in at 7.6 ounces (215 grams).
The Standard model extends from 17.9 centimetres to 23.2 centimetres (7 inches to 9.1 inches) whilst the Long model extends from 22.8 centimetres to 31 centimetres (8.9 inches to 12.2 inches). As with the other models in the range this one also has a cant adjustment feature (15º left and right) and a traversing function (30º left and right).
