To mark the 700th anniversary of the death of Sommo Poeta, the father of the Italian language, and one of the most famous Italian poets, Beretta have released the SL3 Dante Alighieri edition over and under shotgun.
Continuing the one-off series based on this platform, Beretta have selected the SL3 to celebrate this milestone anniversary. This unique masterpiece 20 bore shotgun has 30″ hand-polished barrels, class 5 wood and a custom made leather gun case created by Beretta’s highly skilled atelier
A team of 4 engravers, headed by Luca Casari, selected some of the most meaningful verses and scenes from Dante’s Divine Comedy as a source of inspiration for the Beretta SL3 Dante Alighieri. The Inferno, Purgatorio and Paradiso books also had scenes and sentences taken from them.
Different techniques were used throughout to create these unique engravings (which took over 800 hours to complete). The outer profiles of the sideplates and receiver bottom feature an English scroll engraving completed by golden inlays for flowers and buds. Hammer and burin were also employed, as 3 precious metals (copper, and yellow and green gold) were used on inlays. Furthermore, enamel was used to create blue flowers on the receiver bottom. The barrel monoblock is engraved with gold inlays to reproduce the poet’s name, while the opening key was customized with a unique pierced design.
