Beretta, with Pietro Beretta Selection, have released the new SL2 and with it a new era of shotguns has been born: the Hypergun. Back in 2022 Beretta released the SL2 Launch Edition, and now the production model has arrived. This over-and-under competition shotgun bridges the gap between the DT11 and the SO5.
The Head of Design at Fabbrica d’Armi Pietro Beretta, Marco Martelli, started by looking at what could be removed from the gun and thought about only what was needed. The first step was to reduce the top of the receiver’s width, providing a better view of the target. From here the rest of the gun was developed, with shapes narrowing to appear like they almost disappear or being refined so as to be more ergonomic.
The Design
Thanks to the Boss-type locking system with a locking lug that fits on the hinge pin there is an absence of shoulders, which provides an enhanced view of the target when combined with the sleek design of the top lever. The lines of the stock also blend seamlessly into the receiver which helps with the visibility of clays with a lateral trajectory. The forend has been completely revised – now you can be assured of a solid grip every time you mount the gun.
Surface Finish
The receiver has been laser-engraved with micro pyramids which create a revolutionary anti-glare texture. By reducing glare on the shotgun’s surface you will have an easier time spotting and connecting with targets when it really matters.
The surface finish is a new and innovative Graphite Grey which has been applied by an electrochemical deposition process. This finish not only has a high resistance to corrosion and aging, but thanks to it being fluoride free it is also fully compliant with Beretta’s sustainability policies.
Steelium® ProX Barrels
The SL2 features the advanced Steelium® ProX barrels that offer unparalleled performance. Beretta aim to forge a new path for shotgun barrels with these. A cone with a smaller diameter allows better terminal energy, reduced recoil and improved performance with felt-wad cartridges. Reduced recoil is not just a positive for your overall comfort, but it also gives you more control over the gun which leads to better shooting. The choke fitting is elongated compared to the DT11 Steelium® Pro profile giving you optimised shot patterns and superior ballistic performance.
Customisation Options of the SL2
Being part of the PB Selection family of guns, the SL2 can be customised to a variety of tastes and styles. You can choose from a top lever that is hollow, full, or has three cut-out arrows; the class 4 walnut stock (which can be finished with three different oil finishes) can also be upgraded to class 5 walnut; a carbon trigger group is available; and a guncase can be created to your personal specifications and ideas. If all of that isn’t enough, the SL2 is also available with a carbon fibre stock and forend.
