The Beretta 687 Silver Pigeon V is the ultimate evolution of this legendary gun, it is the top of the range of Beretta’s “standard” over-and-under shotguns.
The Beretta 687 Silver Pigeon V comes in two versions: Field and Sporting. Both versions are a beautiful symbol of efficiency, reliability and minimum maintenance requirements inherited from the 680 platform. This new model is characterised by a new engraving design together with a superior wood grade.
The wood on this model is grade 3 walnut that has a gloss finish to enhance the grain and protect it from rain and humidity. This is a leap in quality compared with the wood found on the Silver Pigeon III which was class 2.5. The stock has a pistol grip and is available with either a 35/55 or 38/60 drop in right or left-handed configurations (an adjustable B-Fast stock is also available). The stock and forend are also finely chequered for an improved grip.
The fine engravings are made using state-of-the-art 5-axis laser technology which is capable of engraving round surfaces while maintaining perfect continuity in the design and reproducing, even in bas-relief areas, a precious contrast effect that typically characterises premium shotguns. The engraving reproduces a design created by the master engravers of Gardone Val Trompia and extends down to the bottom of the receiver (where the shotgun model and three-arrow Beretta logo are shown), opening lever, trigger guard, locking shoulders, pins and forend release.
The 687 Silver Pigeon V’s receiver, which is derived from the legendary 680 series, features a slim, elegant shape characterised by the tried-and-tested locking system with iconic trapezoid shoulders and dual conical locking lugs. The selective trigger is gold-plated and the selector is located inside the safety tang, allowing you to select the appropriate barrel with a quick sideways movement (as found on other Beretta guns). The ejection system is the same as used on the 680 platform. This is an ultra-reliable and sturdy system and has been used in over one million guns over the course of thirty years.
This gun features the famous Steelium barrels in tri-alloy steel, available in 28” (71cm) or 30” (76cm) for the Field version and 30” (76cm) or 32” (81cm) for the Sporting version. The barrels are made by by deep drilling, cold hammer forging and vacuum relief. The special Optimabore HP geometry, with its 80-millimeter double forcing cone, is designed to offer outstanding performance, and always perfect and uniform patterns with every type of cartridge, whilst reducing the felt recoil. This gun uses 70mm Optimachoke HP chokes which are also perfect for use with steel shot.
The windowed top rib (6×6 mm for the Field version and 10×8 mm for the Sporting version) with accurate anti-reflective checkering and a spherical steel front sight is a clear reference to the most exclusive Beretta over-and-under shotguns. An intermediary sight can be fitted on the Sporting version.
