The shooting season is now upon us! The lucky amongst you may be heading up to, or already on, the moors in the North of England and Scotland to enjoy grouse shooting (check out our pick of grouse videos HERE). In Holt’s September auction there is a very interesting peg finder made by Asprey up for grabs, perfect for all of those upcoming shoot days in your calendar.
Founded in 1781, Asprey is a British retailer of jewellery, leather, silver and other luxury goods. It has historically been recognised as one of the world’s pre-eminent luxury goods brands with a client base including royalty and heads of state. Over the years Asprey has produced a number of luxury products for the keen sportsman.
Peg finders (also know as place finders) are used at the beginning of a shoot day to determine who stands on which peg. They can be found in a wide variety of styles from simple silver pegs to shot glasses with the peg number on the base.
This Asprey place finder is in the form of a 12-bore cartridge, so it will be easy to stow away in your shooting jacket – just make sure you don’t load it into your gun by mistake!
The entire body is constructed out of brass with blueing on what would traditionally be the case. When you lift the top eight numbered pegs are presented. The headstamp of the ‘cartridge’ reads ‘ASPREY LONDON MADE IN FRANCE’ and there is an ‘8’ at the top of the ‘cartridge’ where the traditional crimp or card (in cartridge with a rolled turnover) would be.
Available in Holts’ September auction the estimate for this Asprey peg finder is £300-400. Don’t forget to account for the Buyer’s Premium and VAT on the Buyer’s Premium that will be added to your final bid. The lot number for this item is 1041.
