AYA Nº 53
The Nº 53, a stalwart in AYA’s repertoire, has been in production since the early 1950s, testifying to its enduring appeal and craftsmanship.
Crafted on a standard-size frame, the Nº 53 distinguishes itself from its counterpart, the Nº 56, with a slimmer and lighter build. Standardly equipped with fixed-choke 28-inch chopper lump barrels, alternate lengths can be custom-ordered. Weighing around 6¾ pounds, this hammerless sidelock shotgun features a forged steel action with concealed Purdey third bite, side clips, and gas vents.
The Nº 53 was meticulously designed to align with British tastes, providing a compelling alternative to its London-made counterparts.
Noteworthy features comprise a side by side hammerless sidelock mechanism with a forged steel action, incorporating concealed third bite, side clips, and gas vents. Its safety sears are fashioned from hardened steel, while gold-washed internal lock parts and gold-lined cocking indicators attest to the meticulous craftsmanship.
The Nº 53 sports a double trigger configuration, with a hinged front trigger that can be tailored to selective or non-selective preferences. The chopper lump steel barrels, coupled with a concave rib, underscore the gun’s functional excellence. Its walnut stock, finely checkered and oil-finished, is of grade 2 wood, and the fine floral, ribbon, and scroll engraving further enhance its aesthetic appeal.
An initial oval adds a personalised touch, while automatic safety features ensure responsible usage. The Nº 53 is available in either colour hardened or old silver finish, with bore options including 12, 16, and 20. Whilst barrels are 28 inch as standard, lengths can be specified. In the 12 bore variant, it weighs an approximate 6¾ pounds.
