After the 2022/23 game season was affected by avian influenza, a number of shoots are looking to return to their roots and rear their own game for the 2023/24 season. Bettws Hall Game Farm have developed and launched the Bettws Hall Game Rearing System to improve the welfare of the birds, the efficiency of your rearing programme and help make game rearing much easier.
Over the last 30 years Bettws Hall Game Farm have spent a lot of time and investment rearing gamebirds, and they felt they could improve on the systems they previously used and develop a product that had the criteria goal of:
- Improving efficiency,
- Decreasing costs,
- Becoming more user friendly.
With this criteria in mind they developed and launched the Bettws Hall Rearing System in 2014. Before putting it on the market for others to buy and use, the team tested and tweaked it at their own rearing sites for an additional three years.
When trialled on their own game farm, the Bettws Hall Game Rearing System saw an increase of 2.83% for the average rear (which equates to an extra 28 birds per 1,000), a decrease in gas usage, and a decrease in the use of medication, all of which is fantastic news if you are looking to rear your own game.
The unit’s shell (which includes 4 panels, 50mm insulation, a bespoke tarpaulin and ratchets with two straining wires to hold it securely in place) takes two people less than 15 minutes to set up. At its highest point it is 6 feet 6 inches which eases the strain your body might otherwise feel when carrying out daily work in them, and allows for a constant airflow throughout. Bettws Hall Game Farm use this patented system and a 60′ x 40′ run in each shed for pheasant, partridge and ducks.
