The Beretta SL2 Launch Edition is a new competition over and under shotgun that is the result of centuries of experience combined with the most modern and exclusive technologies.
Limited to only 50 units the SL2 is the union of the Beretta factory’s expertise in clay shooting and high-end shotguns. This “Launch Edition” will see the 50 shotguns divided between Trap, Skeet and Sporting. Unlike the classic version that will be released in 2022, the receiver surface on this Launch Edition has been treated with the super-technological DLC finishing, with a glossy black finish and the acid green logo added to the bottom of the receiver. The gun comes in a dedicated guncase with a customised “congratulation card”.
2024 Update: The Beretta SL2 production model has now been released
Main features of the Beretta SL2
- DLC (Diamond-Like-Carbon) surface finishing,
- Innovative anti-glare treatment on the top of the action and opening lever,
- Innovative design maximising field view,
- Grade 4 walnut woods,
- New forend design,
- Removable and interchangeable trigger group,
- Beretta Steelium Pro barrels.
Stock
The stock and the forend are made from grade 4 walnut, finely checkered by hand for the perfect grip. All stocks on the Beretta SL2 Launch Edition will be tailor-made to the shooter’s needs. The process of material selection starts from the headed stock and is formed under the careful supervision of Beretta’s gunsmiths. The forend has a new design and a finger stop at the front to provide maximum ergonomics. The well-proven Beretta MicroCore® recoil pad, known for its excellent recoil absorption and shoulder support, completes the stock-forend system.
Action
The heart of the shotgun is completely new, characterised by a Boss-type locking system with a closing gusset that goes between the first and second barrel, while the base of the sleeve fits into a V-shaped bedding made in the base of the action itself. The surface treatment is the brand new DLC (Diamond-Like-Carbon), a film of carbon atoms that protects the surface from ageing, making it resistant to acids, alkaline or corrosive solutions (e.g. acidic sweat); the main feature of this treatment is its excellent resistance to wear and scratches, so much so that it is widely used for “heavy duty” applications (in products used by the military for example). The line of the receiver is innovative with a “sharp” design: the upper section has been reduced to the essentials, which, together with a revolutionary anti-glare treatment consisting of micro-pyramids able to break down the light and the very low opening lever design, allows a perfect view of the target even in the most extreme lateral trajectories. This results in maximum shadow whatever direction and angle the light hits the surface.
Applying the same texture with the laser to the curved surfaces of the Beretta SL2 Launch Edition proved difficult. Due to the particularly fine nature of the texture the laser’s angle only had to be slightly wrong to interfere with the homogenous engraving of the surface. Several tests were carried out to simulate the different type of curvatures until the final result was achieved. The texture eliminates reflections and excessive brightness no matter what the shape of the surface. The side plates have been mirror polished to contrast the matte finished parts, thereby creating the unique elegance of this firearm that can certainly be included as a member of the prestigious “Pietro Beretta Selection”.
The trigger group is removable and has leaf springs that always ensure a clean and uniform shot. For the Launch Edition, a second trigger group entirely made of carbon will also be provided.
Barrels
The barrels are the ultra-tried-and-tested Beretta Steelium Pro which can also be found on the DT11 (this gun has had many international successes and won 19 medals – 7 Gold; 7 Silver; 5 Bronze – in the last two Olympic cycles of Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo). The SL2 Launch Edition’s barrels feature a particularly elongated triple cone that is 46 centimetres in length. The surface treatment consists of a super hand-polish carried out by Beretta craftsmen.
Guncase
For the guncase Beretta wanted to show its ability to be a precursor while maintaining a strong link with its origins. The guncase represents a perfect match between innovation and tradition: its carbon shell is the result of Beretta’s consolidated knowledge of the material, while the inside is covered in black microfibre with the SL2 logo in acid green (to match the bottom of the shotgun receiver). The guncase is made entirely by hand in the Pietro Beretta Custom Atelier.
