The Beretta Ultraleggero is the start of a whole new chapter in the history of lightweight over-and-under shotguns, it pushes the boundaries of design beyond all previous imagination.
With the Ultraleggero, Beretta have delivered the strength and reliability of a steel receiver but with an exceptionally low weight; something that has only previously been achieved with aluminium receivers. By using state-of-the-art engineering techniques the receiver has been ‘skeletonised’, only the structural elements that are essential for the resistance and performance of the shotgun have been left. The result is a lightweight, yet sturdy shotgun ideal for shooters looking for a fast-handling gun that can be swiftly brought onto game.
The receiver inserts are made from a techno-polymer and feature a cutting-edge floral motif. Again, state-of-the-art technology has been utilised in this design element – unique angles on the surface have been created to simulate the visual effect of light reflected on steel engravings. When the receiver is rotated in the light a fade in-and-out effect of the floral motif and the name “Ultraleggero” is created. This aesthetic feature, together with the matt black burnishing on the receiver and the glossy black hinge pins, bestows unique character to the Ulterleggero.
As well as ‘skelentonising’ the receiver, the Beretta Ultraleggero has undergone a number of other weight saving measures: the cavity in the stock has been increased to save 129grams, an Extralight® recoil pad that is 30% lighter than the standard recoil pad has been fitted, and the OptimaBore HP barrels do not have side ribs. All of this results in the 12 bore model (with 28 inch barrels) weighing in at 6lb 6oz, this is almost 1lb 2oz less than the equivalent Beretta Silver Pigeon II.
